What to wear for a family session

Colours that work together, fabrics that move, and what to leave in the wardrobe.

A flat lay of family outfits in muted earthy colours on a bed.

Matching outfits went out with the nineties. Coordinating colours is what makes a family photo feel calm.

Pick a palette

Choose two or three soft colours and let everyone wear a mix of them: oatmeal, rust and sage work almost anywhere.

Texture over logos

Knits, linen and denim photograph beautifully. Big logos and neon colours pull the eye away from faces.

Comfort first

If the kids are comfortable, they will play, and that’s when the best photos happen.
